Our History

Volunteers of Banyule began in 1999 as an unincorporated association of local residents in the City of Banyule who wanted to grow volunteering opportunities as a means of strengthening their communities.  Over the next eleven years, it has grown with the support of both Banyule and Nillumbik Councils and the efforts of its many volunteers and local people.

Currently it has a paid staff of 4 people, and 13 volunteer staff who attend the centre at least weekly. Marianne Mahony is the current Manager.

In 2010, we received grants from the Community Enterprise Foundation to upgrade our website and the Victorian Department of Planning and Community to develop volunteering opportunities in Nillumbik.
