Volunteers are the key to enabling us to build a caring and cohesive society. There are a wide range of volunteering positions available and they range from working with the environment, coaching or mentoring young people and sporting teams, assisting elderly people to engage in their community and providing administrative or computer assistance to a local charity ------ volunteers make an essential contribution to community well being.

Why volunteer?

There are many, many reasons ---- people may want to:

  • Support the community in which they live
  • Have contact with people
  • Gain experience that may lead to employment
  • Have the opportunity to learn new skills
  • Take on new challenges, and
  • Want to help and make a difference

What you should think about before choosing a volunteer area?

  • Your interests ---- taking on a role which interests you will lead to more rewarding experiences
  • Your availability --- it is important that the role you take on fits into your schedule and is for a period of time which you can commit to
  • Your ability to travel --- so select a role which is within your travel radius
